| QLD JUGGERNAUT ROLLS ON |
The Queensland juggernaut continued their absolute domination of the Australian Indoor Cricket Open Championships in Sydney last night, retaining their unbeaten run after four days of competition. The Queensland Thunder extended their lead slightly at the top of the table to 14 points and saw North Queensland move into outright second with a thumping win over the NSW Cyclones, having lost to WA in the morning. The ACT, WA and Victoria are all right on the tails of the North Queenslanders, however. Rob Fitzgerald was the star in Queensland’s comfortable win over the ACT, taking three wickets for -4 and scoring 26. The Lightning struck twice yesterday, thumping the NSW Blues by 69 runs in the morning but having to fight all the way to beat Victoria by eight runs last night. Former Fire player Rikki-Lee Rimmington took three wickets for -1, while Sarah Harris top-scored with 30 in a valuable 45-run opening partnership. The defeat was Victoria’s first in the women’s section and sent the Lightning 10.5 points clear at the top of the table. The Under 21 Men had a more comfortable win over Victoria, with Laurie Dart the star with bat and ball. |
