| WESTS CLAIM CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - AGAIN |
Western Suburbs have won their third consecutive Grade Club Championship for the best performance across all Grades. Confirmation of the victory came through today after Wests had gone into the final round of men’s fixtures involving six grades just two points ahead of 2009-10 giantkillers Toombul. While all of the two-day games were drawn, Wests did well enough to move out to a 35.32-points winning margin. The Bulldogs finished with 2933.47 points, ahead of Toombul (2898.15) and third-placed University of Queensland (2786.62). While the Bulldogs slipped out of the XXXX GOLD First Grade finals for the first time in a number of years, their women dominated the Katherine Raymont Shield and they supplied finalists in four of the six men’s Grades. In fact, both Wests’ Fifth Grade teams will contest semi-finals this weekend. Clubs earn points in descending order through the grades, while the First Grade women earn the equivalent of a Third Grade victory. The weighting system involves five points for a First Grade win, four for Second Grade, three points in Third Grade and the women’s Katherine Raymont Shield, two points for Fourth and Fifth Grade, and one point for Sixths. Single points are also on offer in the women’s Second Grade, male Under 19 competition, and the Under 17 Lord’s Taverners. |
