Souths youngster Mitchell Brown was the shining light in an otherwise gloomy surrounds as the second day of Round 20 of the XXXX GOLD First Grade cricket premiership was marred by rain. Brown produced his maiden first grade century in “boys own” style, hitting a four off the final ball of the day to bring up three figures in the draw with Wynnum-Manly. Brown finished 100 not out with Souths reaching 2-216 in reply to Wynnum’s first innings of 289. Rain ruined the second day of all bar one match, with competition leaders Toombul getting a result against Wests at Ken Mackay Oval. The red-hot Kieran Murphy top-scored with 89 as the home side reached 9-278 to bring up a 125-run win over Wests after dismissing them on Saturday for 153. The competition’s overall leading runs-scorer Chris Lynn hit a tidy 71 while allrounder Preston White (43) completed a big week where he played on six out of a seven days. Wests paceman Cameron Gannon took 4-60 while Matt Lane picked up 2-18. |
