Snapshot: Steve Paulsen blasted an even 100 off 53 balls to spearhead the QAS to a four-run win over New South Wales in the opening game of the Futures League T20 competition at Toorak Park. Paulsen, who hit 72 runs in boundaries (12 fours and four sixes), shared a commanding 135-run partnership for the second wicket with Corey Barsby (53 off 48) to set the Queenslanders on route to a commanding total of 4-185. It was the innings which ultimately earned Paulsen a last-minute contract with the Brisbane Heat for the inaugural KFC Big Bash League as Gurinder Sandhu (2-27 off 4 overs) and Tim Armstrong (2-11 off 2) were the pick of the NSW bowlers. NSW lost wickets regularly in reply, and when they were 6-135 with only four overs to play it looked like it was all over. Even more so when Graeme Skennar picked up another wicket and conceded just two runs in the 17th over. But when quick Steve Exelby went for 16 runs in the 17th the momentum turned and the southerners had a sniff needing 14 off the last over. The ask became eight runs off four balls after Cam Gannon delivered a waist-high no ball and was dispatched to the boundary by Adam Zampa on the follow-up. But two yorkers and a sharp bouncer slowed things down, and the Blues needed six off the last ball. Zampa squeezed a  fullish one to the 'keeper and scampered through for a single to leave his side four short at 8-181. Captain Brad Ipson (3-40 off 4 overs), Skennar (2-26 off 4) and Gannon (0-24) off 4) were the pick of the QAS bowlers while Stephen Cush (31 off 15), Andrew McLean (32 off 19) and Zampa (36no off 24) led the NSW batting.

QAS 9-161 (20)
d Vic 9-117 (20)

Won by 44 runs

QAS 2
Vic 0

Snapshot: The QAS cruised to a comfortable 44-run win over Victoria in the second game of the day one double-header at XXX to open the Futures League T20 competition. Marty Raadschelders was the star with the bat, belting five sixes and two fours in making 61 off 37 balls as the QAS posted 9-161 batting first. Steve Exelby was the star with the ball, taking three wickets in four balls in his first over as the Blues were left floundering, and when Cam Gannon and Corey Barsby took spectacular catches Victoria were restricted to 9-117. Exelby finished with 3-21 from four overs and was well-supported by Gannon (0-19 off 4), Nick Buchanan (1-14 off 3), captain Brad Ipson (2-16 off 4), Graeme Skennar (1-23 off 3) and Dom Michael (2-14 off 10 balls). Won by 1 run (D/L)

QAS 2
SA 0

Snapshot: .A young QAS outfit posted an unusual one-run win over South Australia in their third game of the Futures League T20 competition at Northcote despite scoring one less run than their opposition and losing one more wicket. The Queenslanders got home under the Duckworth/Lewis system having batted first in a match shortened to six overs aside due to rain. The QAS made 6-54 thanks to Steve Paulsen, who followed a blistering day one century with 17 off 11 balls (three fours) and James Peirson , who hit three sixes in making 24 off 9. Bryce McGain, the 39-year-old former Test leg-spinner, took 3-9 off two overs as the QAS lost 5-4 late in the innings. In reply SA made 5-55. Aiden Blizzard (26 off 16, three fours, one six) was the batting mainstay before young guns Billy Stanlake and Nick Buchanan got the job done late for the QAS. The South Australians crashed in identical fashion to the QAS, losing 5-4 when the chase looked well within their reach. First Stanlake (2-9)removed Blizzard and Cam Borgas in the fifth over, and then Buchanan (2-8) knocked over James Smith and Alex Ross.  With Queenslander Lee Carseldine (6no off 4) stranded at the non-strikers end for the last ball, 'keeper Tim Ludeman needed a six to win. He sliced four over the 'keeper not enough.
